The camping possibilities in Arches National Park [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] are limited. The park includes the world's largest concentration of natural stone arches. Established originally as a national monument in 1929, it became a National Park on November 12, 1971.
Arches is part of a vast arid desert. Just 5 miles north of Moab, Utah on Highway 191, it's a 3-4 hour drive southeast of Salt Lake City. The stunning red desert landscape has been [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] transformed over time into what we see today. Thousands of oddly shaped sandstone formations. You can see more than [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] 2,000 sandstone [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] arches throughout the 73,000 acre park.
When you get [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] to Arches, be prepared for a variety of conditions. Remember, it's a desert. But located at a high altitude. The elevation varies from 3,900 feet to 5,600 feet above sea level.
Temperatures can reach ... and [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] exceed ... 100 degrees F from June through September. And [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] between December and February, it can drop below freezing. These temperatures can range as much as 50 degrees F in a 24-hour period! Keep this fact foremost in mind when planning a visit to Arches.
Camping in Arches National Park doesn't afford many choices as space is limited. There's only campground in the park itself - Devil's Garden. You will, however, find additional campgrounds in or near surrounding towns.
The Devils Garden campground lies 18 miles (29 km) from the park's entrance. It is open year-round. From March through late October ... the peak season ... the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] fee is $10.00 per night. From late October through the middle of March ... the off-season ... the fee is $5.00 per night.
Individual Sites
There are 52 individual sites in the Devils Garden Campground. Each will accommodate up to 10 people. Between March 1 and October 31, you can actually reserve individual sites through the National Recreation Reservation System (NRRS).
Reservations have to be made no less than 4 days and no [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] more than 240 days in advance. But only 30 [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] sites can be reserved in advance. The other 22 sites are up for grabs daily on a first-come, first-served basis. You can get one of these by getting to the park entrance or visitor center early. It opens at 7:30 am.
Group Sites
Two areas of the campground accommodate groups of 11 or more. The Juniper Basin site can handle as many as 55 people. The Canyon Wren campsite handles up to 35 people. Group fees are $3.00 per person per night and the minimum is #33.00 per night. No [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] RV's or trailers are permitted here.
Reservations For Arches National Park Camping
Reservations for both group and individual sites can be made through NRRS year-round. Once again, no less than 4 days and no more than 240 days in advance. Group sites ... like individual sites ... are available on a first-come, first-served basis upon arrival.
