These are only some of [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] the basic ideas of learning how to read music. If you are serious about wanting to understand musical notation, it is best to buy a basic music theory book which can teach you everything you need to know, step by step.
Clefs [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] provide a point of reference, whereby you [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] can work out where other notes on the page lie. At the beginning of learning to interpret scores, it can take you some time [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] to figure out which note on the page corresponds to which note on your instrument. If you read music frequently, you will be able to tell which note is which more quickly.
In musical notation, the symbols representing notes are arranged on what is called a ‘stave’ – this is a collection of five horizontal lines which [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] is drawn across the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] page. The lines resemble telephone cables, and [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] notes like birds which sit in different places on the telephone cables. Each line and space corresponds to a different exact pitch.
The length of a note, unlike the pitch of a note, is not determined by its horizontal position on the stave – depending on how a note is drawn, it will have a specific duration. A minim, for example, has a hollow note-head (as opposed to a quarter note which is filled in black), and has twice the duration of a quarter note. The durations of all the different notes and their symbols is one set of information that you need to learn to be able to make sense of a score.

Many people who are not trained in an instrument are amazed by musicians’ ability to read music, but learning how to read music is not as hard as it may seem. Once you know what graphical elements mean, it is simply a [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] matter of reading enough music to increase your speed as well as the familiarity of musical [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] notation.
A symbol which decides the exact pitch each stave represents is called a clef. The treble or G clef is a curling symbol that you will usually see at the start of each top stave in a piano score. This symbol locates the G immediately above middle C on fourth line of the stave, if you count downwards. It is easy to work out what other notes in this range of the instrument are with this point of reference.
In piano music, two staves are joined together by a curving bracket or a straight bracket, as the instrument has a wide range. The right hand generally stays in the treble clef, while the left [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] hand plays in the bass clef. This clef is represented by a curving line with two dots next to it. These dots are positioned on either side of the second line of the stave, and show that this line is where the F below middle C must be drawn.
